About Us

The National Lighthouse Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to provide a continuous and intermittent path for our nation’s youth. The Foundation serves as a catalyst to provoke significant change in achieving the hopes and dreams of young people all over America. Through merit and need-based scholarships, grants and charitable contributions, the Foundation seeks to create better citizens by promising opportunity-opportunities needed by our youth to excel in this country- the most competitive society in the world.

The Foundation is committed to making a difference in children's lives by addressing issues such as academia, professionalism, maturity, and financial success, thereby equipping our children with the skills necessary to thrive. The National Lighthouse Foundation is lighting paths for the world to follow- one child at a time.

A native of Atlanta, JR Henderson is committed to promoting youth empowerment and encouraging self-confidence, perseverance, and success in the lives of people across the US with a focus on motivating youth. He frequently serves as a keynote speaker and trainer for organizations. Several of these include: Children's Defense Fund, Department of Family and Children Services, Department of Education, United Way, Project Grad, Jane Fonda Foundation, Georgia Center for Working Families, Metro-Atlanta Youth Opportunities Initiative, Georgia Welfare County Association and The Coca-Cola Foundation. He has received many awards and recognitions from organizations such as the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, NAACP, United Way, The National Heritage Foundation and many more. JR Henderson is the founder of The National Lighthouse Foundation, a 501c3 organization that focuses on education and community development. Holding degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science (from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia) and in International Studies (University of Notre Dame' in Haiti and University of Johannesburg in South Africa), Mr. Henderson is an advocate for lifelong education. He is currently pursuing a degree in public administration from Central Michigan University.

Goals of the National Lighthouse Foundation

  • To serve as an advocate for youth within the Foster Care System
  • To assist the high school student in obtaining a college education
  • To ready the college graduate for rewarding and competitive placement in the workforce
